Google announces mandatory Android 16 update for Pixel 6a on July 8 to address battery safety concerns
Google is rolling out a required Android 16 update for Pixel 6a devices starting July 8 to tackle battery issues. The update aims to enhance battery management and prevent overheating and potential damage. Users will experience slower charging speeds and battery level fluctuations post-update.

Google has officially announced a mandatory update to Android 16 for all Pixel 6a devices, part of its Battery Performance Programme. The update, rolling out from 8 July, aims to address ongoing battery concerns that have affected the handset.
Previously excluded from Android 16 eligibility, the Pixel 6a will now receive the update to activate new safety measures for battery performance.
The update will target devices flagged as 'Impacted Devices' and enable advanced battery management features to prevent overheating and damage.
One major change is a limit on battery capacity and charging performance after 400 full charge cycles. Users will receive an alert at 375 cycles, and may notice slower charging speeds and battery-level fluctuations post-update.
This initiative follows reported incidents, including a swollen battery causing screen damage and an alleged explosion due to battery expansion.
