French town cuts festival funding over controversial band
The Paris suburb of Saint-Cloud has decided to withdraw a €40,000 subsidy for the Rock-en-Seine music festival due to the booking of Irish rap trio Kneecap, known for displaying pro-Palestine messages. The decision was made on 3 July, citing a policy against funding political actions or calls to violence.

The municipal authority for the Paris suburb of Saint-Cloud has decided to withdraw a €40,000 subsidy for the Rock-en-Seine music festival due to its booking of Irish rap trio Kneecap. The band has faced criticism for displaying pro-Palestine messages during gigs. Kneecap is scheduled to perform on the final day of the festival from 21 - 24 August.
Saint-Cloud city hall stated that the funding was withdrawn on 3 July as it does not finance political actions or calls to violence. The city respects the festival's programming freedom but decided to withdraw the subsidy.
Kneecap member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, known as Mo Chara, was charged with a terrorism offence in May for allegedly displaying a flag of Hezbollah. The band denies supporting Hamas or Hezbollah.
Rock-en-Seine has not commented on the situation.
