A Melbourne father recently discovered that his toddler may have attended a childcare centre where alleged paedophile Joshua Brown worked. Brown, a former childcare worker, was charged with 70 offences, including sexual assault, earlier this year. The charges stem from incidents involving eight alleged victims at a Point Cook early education centre.

Following a major police investigation, Brown was arrested on May 12. The state government has set up a website listing Brown's places of employment between 2017 and 2025 as a precautionary measure. Approximately 1200 families were contacted to have their children tested for sexually transmitted diseases as a safety measure.

Recent revelations suggest that Brown may have worked at more locations than initially reported on the government website. Melbourne father Daniel learned that his two-year-old son's attendance overlapped with Brown's employment at a centre in the city's west. Daniel expressed shock and disappointment upon discovering this connection.

Due to a lack of initial communication from the health department, Daniel's son was initially turned away from the testing site, leading to a scramble to prove the need for the test. Concerns have been raised about potential abuse at the 19 other facilities where Brown worked.

The government has taken swift action, appointing Jay Weatherill to review Victoria's childcare sector. However, critics question Weatherill's suitability for the role given past child protection issues in South Australia.
