Romualdez proposes more benefits for seniors and PWDs
Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez introduces a bill to provide additional discounts and VAT exemptions for senior citizens and persons with disabilities on top of existing promotions. The aim is to clarify and enhance the benefits available to these groups.

Senior citizens in Borongan City, Eastern Samar are set to receive expanded benefits as Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez filed a measure at the House of Representatives. The bill aims to enhance the discounts and privileges for senior citizens and persons with disabilities by applying a 20% discount and exemption from the 12% value-added tax on top of any existing promotional offers or discounts provided by businesses.
The proposed law seeks to ensure that senior citizens and persons with disabilities continue to receive preferential treatment. It builds upon the benefits already outlined in Republic Act (RA) 7432 and RA 7277, providing additional discounts without the need for special booklets during purchases.
Rep. Romualdez emphasized that the measure aims to resolve disputes between businesses and eligible individuals regarding the interpretation of existing laws. The bill also addresses tax considerations to balance the interests of both parties, allowing for the deduction of input tax related to VAT-exempt sales to seniors and PWDs.
The co-authors of the bill are Tingog Party-list Representatives Andrew Julian Romualdez and Jude Acidre.
