Bones of missing cockfighting enthusiasts may still be found in Taal Lake

It is possible for the bones of missing sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts) to be recovered from Taal Lake if the bodies were really buried there, according to Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum. Solidum explained that bones do not decompose, only the flesh rots. The rate of decomposition depends on the location, depth, and oxidizing content of the lake. Bodies may not decompose easily in a reducing environment with low oxygen. Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla has sought technical assistance from Japan to search for the missing sabungeros' bodies in Taal Lake, following revelations by whistleblower Julie Dondon Aguilar Patidongan.
