Switch 2 Predicted to Outdo Original Switch's Success by Port Specialist

One company that supported the Switch was the port specialist Virtuos, known for games like Dark Souls and The Outer Worlds. Even though it's early days for the Switch 2, the team is already optimistic about its future.

In a recent interview with Wccftech, Eoin O'Grady, the technical director of Virtuos' subsidiary Black Shamrock, believes that the Switch 2 will exceed the success of its predecessor. He attributes this potential success to the growth in the handheld gaming market, fueled by devices like the original Switch and Steam Deck.

O'Grady envisions the Switch 2 capitalizing on the increasing demand for gaming on the go by offering a mix of indie games, Nintendo exclusives, and AAA titles. He points out that Nintendo's large fanbase, combined with the expanding handheld gaming market, sets a promising stage for the Switch 2.

Alex Heise, Virtuos' North America director of business development, echoes O'Grady's sentiments. He emphasizes the strong brand and proven success of the original Switch, suggesting that adding a '2' to the name will immediately communicate the value of the new device compared to past Nintendo systems.

Heise acknowledges that while the rapid success of the Switch 2 may not have been fully anticipated, Virtuos had high hopes for the console. He highlights that the Switch 2 represents a significant iteration for Nintendo, being the first console with a '2' in its name since the transition from NES to SNES.

Nintendo reported that the Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units globally in its first four days, setting a new record for Nintendo hardware sales. As of March 31, 2025, the original Switch has sold over 152 million units worldwide in eight years.

Third-party developers like CD Projekt Red and Capcom have also expressed support for the Switch 2, indicating a positive outlook from the industry.
