Liverpool's Diogo Jota and Brother André Silva Laid to Rest in Emotional Funeral

Thousands of people gathered on Sunday morning in the church of Gondomar for the funeral of Liverpool player Diogo Jota and brother André Silva, who died in a car crash in Spain. The bishop of Porto presided over the funeral mass, and the church was full with a few dozen people following the ceremony outside. The coffins were then taken to the cemetery next to the church.

The urns of the two players were carried by friends and players from Gondomar FC, where Diogo Jota started his football career at the age of 9. André Silva also began playing football at the same club before moving to FC Porto’s youth academy.

The procession to the cemetery was joined by thousands of fans who wanted to pay their respects to the local players. The Liverpool Football Club squad attended the ceremonies, with captain Virgil Van Dijk and teammate Andrew Robertson bringing floral arrangements in memory of the players.

Portugal's national team coach Roberto Martínez and several top Portuguese players were present at the funeral. Cristiano Ronaldo, however, was notably absent. The brothers were found dead in a car crash in Spain, and their bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family.

Diogo Jota's death came shortly after a successful season with Liverpool and Portugal, and his passing received condolences from around the world.
