Funeral details have been announced for Natalie McLaughlin and her six-year-old daughter, Ella, who tragically died in a road crash in Co Donegal. Natalie, in her 20s, and Ella will be laid to rest on Monday. Ella passed away on Wednesday night after a collision between a car and a van on the R240 at Carndonagh. Natalie died on Thursday evening at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Their remains will be at Natalie's parents' home in Carndonagh on Sunday from 1pm to 9pm for people to pay their respects. The funeral mass will be at Sacred Heart Church in Carndonagh at 12pm, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
A death notice described Natalie as a much-loved mother and sister, and Ella as a cherished daughter and granddaughter. Ella's infant sister, a rear-seat passenger, and Natalie's partner, the front-seat passenger, are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Ella was a senior infants pupil at St Patrick's Girls National School, Carndonagh, and Natalie worked as a nurse at a doctor’s surgery in Carndonagh. The school paid tribute to Ella, remembering her kindness and mischievous character. Councillor Martin McDermott expressed sadness for the community's loss.
An Garda Síochána is seeking witnesses to the collision. Road users with camera footage from the area between 6pm and 6.30pm on July 2 are urged to contact the authorities. A fundraiser has been set up for the family.
