Tributes for 'gentle giant' who passed away in Cork City house fire

Tributes have been paid to Peter Lyall, 62, who died in a house fire in Cork City. Known as a 'gentleman, and a gentle giant', he was a master brewer at The Franciscan Well bar and brewery and helped found Fr Mathew’s Basketball club's underage section. He died in a fire at his home in the Ardcullen area of Hollyhill. His partner, Anna, escaped the blaze.

Shane Long, who hired him 28 years ago, described him as loyal and a true gentleman. Mary Crilly from the Cork Sexual Violence Centre also praised him for his kindness and support.

The fire broke out early Monday, with firefighters unable to save Mr. Lyall. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Separately, a teenager died in a car-truck collision on the N71 road between Ballinhassig and Innishannon. Witnesses with dash-cam footage are urged to contact Bandon Garda Station.
