Ubisoft Shareholders Call for Response to Stop Killing Games Movement

Ubisoft's own shareholders have challenged the publisher to respond to the Stop Killing Games movement, which was launched in response to Ubisoft's decision to shut down The Crew last year. The movement, initiated by Accursed Farms YouTuber Ross Scott, aims to address the issue of purchased games becoming unplayable due to publisher actions.

The controversy arose when Ubisoft closed The Crew's servers, preventing access to both its multiplayer and single-player content. The publisher also revoked customers' licenses to the game, permanently removing it from their libraries.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot defended the company's actions, stating that they provide support for games and warn customers about online requirements. He mentioned offering a discounted upgrade to buyers of The Crew 2 for one Euro.

Guillemot acknowledged the issue of game support ending but emphasized that services may be discontinued as software becomes obsolete over time. The Stop Killing Games movement, however, is advocating for publishers to ensure games remain playable even after support ends.

The movement has garnered over 1 million signatures and has received attention from industry bodies. Despite concerns raised by some companies, the initiative continues to push for games to be left in a playable state once support is terminated.
