Swat Residents Protest Tragic Deaths in Flooded River
Residents of Swat gathered to protest the tragic deaths of 13 tourists who drowned in the flooded Swat River. The delayed response from authorities led to public outrage and demands for accountability and improved safety measures.

People from all walks of life gathered at Nishat Chowk to protest the deaths caused by the flooded Swat River. The tragedy occurred when flash floods swept away 17 tourists who were having breakfast by the river. Unfortunately, 13 of them drowned after being stranded for about two hours. Despite reaching out to Rescue 1122 and other departments, the delayed response led to multiple deaths. The rescue teams managed to recover nine bodies on the same day and three more the following day.
The residents demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and the registration of an FIR against officials for their alleged negligence. The protesters criticized the district administration and Rescue 1122 for the delayed response, holding them responsible for the tragic incident. They called for the implementation of a modern rescue system, including helicopter services and an early flood warning system. Additionally, concerns were raised about riverbed mining in Swat, which has altered the natural course of the river, posing environmental risks.
The protesters emphasized the need for accountability, improved disaster management, and safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future. Following public outrage over the tourist deaths, the provincial government took action by transferring the deputy commissioner of Swat and suspending several officials.
After the incident, the provincial chief secretary visited the site, held meetings with administration officials, and instructed them to take preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.
