The incident occurred early Sunday morning when a landslide struck the labourers' camp. The incident took place 4-5 km ahead of Paligad, on the Yamunotri National Highway, near Silai Band at 2.12 am. There were 19 workers at the camp, and nine were initially missing. Two bodies were recovered, and four of the missing are from Nepal.
The State Disaster Management Authority was informed about heavy rainfall at 2.12 am on Sunday. Relief and search-rescue operations involve teams from police, State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, Revenue Department, and Health Department.
The deceased were identified as Kewal Bisht (43) from Nepal and Duje Lal (55) from Uttar Pradesh. The missing individuals are from Nepal and Dehradun.
Following continuous heavy rainfall, the Char Dham Yatra was suspended for a day as a precautionary measure. The district administrations are on alert, and a decision on resuming the Yatra will be made after reviewing weather conditions on Monday.
IMD has issued a red alert for Monday due to expected heavy rain in several districts of Uttarakhand.
