Malik Beasley Contract Talks with Pistons Halted Due to Gambling Investigation
Malik Beasley was in talks for a new contract with the Detroit Pistons, but discussions are now on hold as the U.S. District Attorney’s office investigates allegations of gambling related to NBA games and prop bets. Beasley's attorney emphasized that an investigation is not a charge and he maintains the presumption of innocence.

Malik Beasley was in talks to re-sign with the Detroit Pistons on a new contract, but the situation has become uncertain. The U.S. District Attorney’s office is investigating Beasley for alleged gambling related to NBA games and prop bets, as reported by ESPN's Shams Charania. Talks between Beasley and the Pistons for a new three-year, $42 million contract are now on hold.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass stated that they are cooperating with the federal prosecutors’ investigation. This is not the first time an NBA player has faced gambling allegations, as former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter was banned for life in April 2024 for violating gambling rules.
Beasley's attorney, Steve Haney, emphasized that an investigation is not a charge and that Beasley is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The allegations date back to the 2023-24 season when Beasley was with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Despite the off-court issues, Beasley performed well in the 2024-25 season with the Pistons, averaging 16.3 points per game and shooting 41.6 percent from three-point range. He played a key role in the team after Jaden Ivey's injury limited his games.
Throughout his NBA career, Beasley has played for several teams including the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Bucks, and Pistons.
