Political Controversy Erupts Over Mohan Bhagwat's Retirement Remark
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent statement suggesting leaders should step aside at 75 has sparked a political controversy, with Congress and Opposition leaders interpreting it as a hint towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is approaching 75 in September. The statement was made during a book launch event in Nagpur where Bhagwat shared insights from a Sangh meeting honoring a senior leader turning 75.

Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat recently stated that leaders should step aside at 75, sparking a political controversy. Congress and Opposition leaders linked it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is turning 75 in September.
During a book launch in Nagpur on July 9, Mr. Bhagwat shared an incident from a Sangh meeting in Vrindavan where a senior leader was felicitated for turning 75. The leader expressed the sentiment of moving aside gracefully at that age.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh took a dig at PM Modi, suggesting he should consider stepping down when he turns 75 in 2025. Congress leader Pawan Khera also commented on the situation.
Shiv Sena member Sanjay Raut raised concerns about leaders being 'forced' to retire at 75 and questioned if PM Modi would follow the same rule.
A senior RSS functionary clarified that Bhagwat's statement was taken out of context and was not a hint for the Prime Minister. This is not the first time an RSS chief has spoken about retirement age for leaders.
