NASA to Share Details of TRACERS Mission Studying Earth's Magnetic Shield
NASA will hold a media teleconference to discuss the upcoming TRACERS mission, which aims to study how Earth's magnetic shield protects the planet from solar wind. The mission will also include additional payloads to demonstrate innovative technologies for space exploration.

The TRACERS (Tandem Reconnection and Cusp Electrodynamics Reconnaissance Satellites) mission aims to study magnetic reconnection and its impact on Earth's atmosphere. NASA will host a media teleconference on July 17 to discuss the upcoming TRACERS mission, which consists of twin satellites investigating how Earth's magnetic shield defends against solar wind. The satellites will observe magnetic explosions and their effects on space weather.
Accompanying the TRACERS mission are three additional NASA-funded payloads: Athena EPIC SmallSat, Polylingual Experimental Terminal, and REAL CubeSat. These payloads will demonstrate innovative technologies for remote sensing, space communications, and radiation protection.
The teleconference will feature experts from NASA Headquarters, Langley Research Center, SCaN program, University of Iowa, and Dartmouth College. Media participation requires RSVP by July 17. The TRACERS mission will launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
