Man Admits Causing Fatal Crash After Bride-to-Be's Wedding Dress Shopping
A man pleaded guilty to causing the death of a young woman in a hit-and-run incident in Lifford, shortly after she had been looking at wedding dresses. The victim, Laura Connolly, had been shopping with friends for her upcoming wedding. The case is set for sentencing in the future.

Laura Connolly had been shopping for a wedding dress with friends. A man pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing her death in Lifford in 2021, shortly after she had been 'window shopping' for wedding dresses. Sean Connaughton admitted to a hit-and-run incident at Townparks, Lifford on July 11, 2021, where Ms. Laura Connolly, a 34-year-old pedestrian, lost her life. She was taken to University Hospital Letterkenny and pronounced dead. Earlier that day, Ms. Connolly had been shopping for a wedding dress with friends for her upcoming marriage to Joe McCullagh in 2022.
Connaughton, a father-of-two from Donegal with an address in Co Louth, pleaded guilty to the charge under the Road Traffic Act. His lawyer requested a probation and welfare report, citing stress and anxiety for his client. The case was adjourned for sentencing, with a possibility of delay due to the Probation Services' workload. Judge Maguire extended sympathies to the Connolly family present in court.
