Singaporean Man Arrested in Thailand, Charged with Drug Trafficking
A Singaporean fugitive, Tan Leng Chong, was apprehended in Thailand and is facing charges for trafficking nearly 5kg of cannabis mixture. Those convicted of such crimes in Singapore may face the death penalty.

A Singaporean on the run, Tan Leng Chong, 50, has been charged with trafficking almost 5kg of cannabis. He is accused of conspiring with another man to traffic blocks of vegetable matter containing at least 4,990.6g of cannabis mixture. Those found guilty of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
Tan's alleged offence was uncovered during the Central Narcotics Bureau's investigation into a drug trafficking case in July 2024. He had been out of Singapore since July 27, 2023, and was arrested in Thailand before being handed over to CNB.
He is also being investigated for potential money-laundering offences, with bank accounts linked to him containing more than $242,000 frozen. CNB stated that money found to be drug trafficking proceeds will be forfeited to the state.
