Former student alleges sexual encounters with teacher, inquiry reveals
A former Leaving Certificate student testified in a fitness-to-teach inquiry about alleged sexual encounters with a teacher on multiple occasions. The student claimed the teacher engaged in inappropriate communications and behavior, leading to a complaint to the Teaching Council.

A fitness-to-teach inquiry heard testimony from a former Leaving Certificate student who accused a teacher of driving her to an old factory driveway after school.
The student alleged that the teacher wanted to have sex with her and engaged in sexual encounters with her multiple times between March and June 2018. They exchanged sexually explicit messages on Snapchat.
The teacher, absent from the inquiry, claimed the allegations were weak and inconsistent. He emphasized the relationship was consensual and highlighted his good service record.
The student mentioned struggling with mental health issues and feeling manipulated by the teacher. She reported his inappropriate behavior to the Teaching Council.
The inquiry will continue on July 15th.
