Many others waited in silent reverence and sorrow outside the church, where the service could be heard over speakers. The two brothers were later buried in the community cemetery.

During the moving sermon, the Bishop of Porto, Manuel Linda, addressed directly the three young children of Diogo Jota and his wife Rute Cardoso, aged four, two, and seven months, who were not present at the service. The bishop expressed his prayers for them and acknowledged the immense suffering of the family.

Following the funeral, the simple wooden coffins were carried out of the church to the sound of bells ringing and the choir singing Ave Maria. Priests led the procession to the cemetery, with large black and white photos of the deceased carried ahead. Diogo Jota's wife was seen walking directly behind her husband's coffin.

Many of Diogo Jota's teammates, including Liverpool stars van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and coach Arne Slot, as well as his friend and national team colleague Neves, attended the funeral.
