Decline in Dengue Cases Despite Monsoon Arrival

The number of dengue fever cases has decreased in the State this year, as per official data. However, there has been a slight rise in cases within the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) limits.

Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha mentioned that the preventive measures implemented by the Health department have shown positive outcomes.

In a recent high-level review on the spread of communicable and seasonal diseases, officials informed the minister that the number of patients with seasonal diseases has decreased due to stringent preventive measures.

Officials noted that compared to the previous year, fewer dengue cases have been reported in many districts, with a slight increase in cases in Greater Hyderabad. Less than 10 cases were reported in 19 districts, while the remaining districts reported around 10 cases. Typhoid cases have also seen a significant decrease compared to last year.

Minister Damodar directed GHMC officials to appoint Special Officers in zones with high disease severity. He also advised the Health Secretary to collaborate with Collectors to control seasonal diseases, particularly in tribal areas. Field medical staff were instructed to conduct door-to-door surveys and raise awareness among the public.

The Minister emphasized the importance of hospitals being equipped with necessary facilities to treat patients affected by seasonal diseases. The Director of the Public Health department was tasked with taking strict action against private hospitals that exploit patients under the guise of platelets treatment.
