Shubman Gill Enters Top-10 ICC Test Batting Rankings for First Time

India captain Shubman Gill entered the top-10 of the ICC men's Test batting rankings for the first time after a remarkable performance against England at Edgbaston. Gill scored 269 and 161 in the match, making him the second player ever to achieve over 150 runs in both innings of a Test. India won the game by 336 runs, leveling the series 1-1. This victory marked Gill's first win as Test captain. Previously ranked 23rd, the 24-year-old has climbed 15 spots to a career-best No.6 in the latest ICC Test batters' rankings. His total of 430 runs in the match brought his series tally to 585 with three Tests remaining. Gill's previous best rank was 14th in September 2023.

In ODIs, Gill maintains his lead in the batting chart. Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis have moved up in the rankings after their series win over Bangladesh. Wanindu Hasaranga climbed to eighth in the ODI bowling rankings after taking nine wickets in the series. Jasprit Bumrah remains the top-ranked bowler in Test cricket. Mohammed Siraj advanced six spots to 22nd, while Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph also made progress.

England's Harry Brook reclaimed the top spot in the Test batters' rankings after scoring 158 in the first innings at Edgbaston. Joe Root is now second, followed by Kane Williamson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Steve Smith. Gill is just 79 rating points behind Brook. Jamie Smith of England achieved a career-best ranking by moving up 16 places after his performances against India. Wiaan Mulder rose to 22nd after his unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe and is now third among Test all-rounders, with Ravindra Jadeja leading the category for India.
