Man Found Guilty of Murdering Woman Walking Dog in Brantham in 2024

A wanted man who was on the run for two years has been found guilty of murdering Anita Rose, 57, while she was walking her dog last summer in Brantham, Suffolk. Ms Rose was found with serious injuries on a footpath and later died in the hospital. Roy Barclay, 56, denied killing her but was convicted by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court. He is set to be sentenced on 6 August.

Ms Rose's partner, Richard Jones, emotionally testified in court about their last conversation. Barclay, who had been evading police, was linked to the crime through DNA evidence and CCTV footage. Prosecutors argued that he kept some of Ms Rose's belongings as trophies.

Barclay's defence raised questions about the significance of his presence in the area and his possession of the victim's items. The trial revealed his criminal history, including a previous assault conviction.
