The fatalities in Plainfield were a 79-year-old man and a 25-year-old man who tragically lost their lives when a tree fell on their car, according to city officials. Mayor Adrian O. Mapp expressed condolences, stating, \"Our hearts are heavy. We mourn with the families and stand ready to support them in every way possible.\"

Plainfield has declared a state of emergency, with the mayor describing the storm as \"devastating,\" causing \"deep scars\" and \"widespread damage.\" The mayor announced the cancellation of Fourth of July events, emphasizing the need to focus on recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey advised residents to remain indoors to avoid hazards such as fallen trees, downed power lines, and burning transformers.
