Ryanair increases free cabin baggage size for passengers
Ryanair has decided to offer a larger free cabin baggage allowance to its customers. The new size, equivalent to a six-inch cube, will allow passengers to bring a few extra items like T-shirts. This change comes amidst ongoing discussions in Europe regarding the amount of baggage passengers can carry onboard for free.

Ryanair is increasing the size of its free cabin baggage allowance, offering an amount equal to a six-inch cube, allowing customers to bring a couple of extra T-shirts. Currently, passengers can bring a free bag measuring 40x25x20cm onboard, which will increase to 40x30x20cm, according to a Ryanair spokeswoman. This change comes as lawmakers in Europe discuss baggage allowances for passengers.
Airlines have different luggage-size requirements, leading to confusion and frustration among customers who may face extra charges if their bag is oversized. The Airlines for Europe (A4E) trade body, which includes Ryanair, has announced standards for the free under-seat bag that its members will implement by the end of summer. EasyJet Plc will also exceed these minimums to maintain its free luggage allowances.
This marks the first time a framework has been established for smaller bags that passengers can bring onboard as part of their fare. A4E has opposed a two-bag minimum, arguing that it limits passenger choice and imposes unnecessary services. Ourania Georgoutsakou, A4E’s managing director, criticized the idea of mandatory services, comparing it to requiring popcorn and drinks with a cinema ticket.
