A heat warning has been issued for Toronto and southern Ontario this weekend, with temperatures feeling like 40 with the humidity. Environment Canada predicts daytime highs of 31-33 C on Saturday and Sunday. The public is advised to take precautions as extreme heat can impact health. Overnight temperatures on Saturday will only drop to 21-25 C with little relief. The heat is expected to break on Sunday night. Tips include staying hydrated, using air conditioning if possible, avoiding direct sun exposure, and limiting outdoor activities to cooler times of the day.
This marks Toronto's second heat warning in as many weeks. The city previously broke a temperature record on June 23 with 36 C. Toronto Public Health reported 42 heat-related ER visits during that period. The current heat warning extends to various areas including Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Mississauga, and more. Early signs of heat exhaustion should be monitored, and 911 should be called if heat stroke symptoms like red skin, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or change in consciousness are observed. Hamilton is providing 'cool places' to help residents during the heat wave.
