Bridge collapse in Gujarat kills 2, rescues 5 after vehicles plunge into river

At least two people were killed, and five others were rescued after multiple vehicles fell into the Mahisagar River when a dilapidated bridge in Gujarat’s Vadodara district collapsed early Wednesday. The bridge connected Mujpur to Gambhira in Anand district as well as Central Gujarat to Saurashtra.

Anil Dhameliya, District Collector, Vadodara, confirmed the incident and mentioned the types of vehicles that plunged into the river. The rescue operation is ongoing, with efforts to save those trapped.

Vadodara district fire and emergency team, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are conducting rescue operations. The injured have been taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The 43-year-old bridge had undergone repairs last year. Engineers will inspect the bridge once the rescue operation is complete. Anand district administration is providing support in managing the situation.

More updates are awaited as the rescue operation continues.
