Australian Federal Police Bust Drug Lab, Seize 100kg of Meth in Sydney's West
Police raided a suburban drug lab in Sydney's west, confiscating over 100kg of methamphetamine products. The operation was prompted by a tip-off from US border force police who intercepted 27kg of meth destined for Australia. No arrests have been made as investigations into the criminal syndicate continue.
Police have seized over 100kg of methamphetamine products during a raid of a suburban drug lab operating in Sydney's west. Officers were tipped off over an alleged criminal syndicate after border force police in the US found 27kg of meth, with an estimated street value of $25 million, headed for Australia hidden in blankets. Two raids conducted by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) last year in Cabramatta in Sydney's south-west and Canley Vale in the city's west led police to a third address in Fairfield East, also in Sydney's west.
Investigators searched the home in Fairfield East on June 19 and uncovered a clandestine laboratory. The lab was dismantled and police seized 77kg of drug-impregnated materials, 39kg of pre-manufactured methamphetamine and 35kg of liquid allegedly containing methamphetamine. Also seized was over 600-litres of waste material and electronic devices. No arrests have been made and an investigation into the alleged criminal syndicate remains ongoing.
AFP Detective Superintendent Morgen Blunden said criminal groups operating across Australia are only motivated by 'greed and profit'. 'The people behind importations like this have no regard for the harm and damage that illicit drugs wreak on the Australian community every minute of every day,' Blunden said. 'I want to acknowledge the dedication and professionalism of all the AFP members involved in these investigations, from investigators and intelligence members to all of our other support capabilities. I also wish to thank our counterparts at NSW Police, in particular the Drug & Firearms Squad Chemical Operations team for their specialist and expert assistance in this matter.'
