Karachi Reacts Strongly to Attempted Block on FCA Relief for K-Electric
Karachi-based industrialists and consumers are concerned about the Power Division's interference in denying Rs7.173 billion in Fuel Charges Adjustment relief to K-Electric consumers. Arif Balwani, an energy expert, opposes the last-minute request to defer the FCA hearing, citing procedural impropriety and lack of statutory authority.

Karachi-based industrialists and consumers are concerned about the Power Division's attempt to block relief and reschedule K-Electric's hearing. Stakeholders have urged NEPRA to reject the Power Division's request to deny Rs7.173 billion in Fuel Charges Adjustment relief for April 2025 to KE consumers. They are also worried about the rescheduling of KE's hearing.
Energy expert Arif Balwani has opposed the Power Division's request to defer the FCA hearing for K-Electric. The hearing, initially set for June 19, 2025, was rescheduled to June 23, 2025, and now NEPRA has fixed June 30, 2025, for the next hearing.
Balwani emphasized that the FCA mechanism is a statutory process and not subject to discretionary regulatory intervention. He criticized the Power Division's objection during the hearing as procedurally improper and lacking legal basis. He also highlighted that the Power Division's argument about the reference fuel price and passing on negative FCA to consumers due to IMF constraints is irrelevant and unsupported by law.
