Meet Parag Jain, the New RAW Chief Known for Precision Strikes in Operation Sindoor

The central government has appointed Parag Jain, a 1989‑batch IPS officer of Punjab cadre, as the new Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) chief. He will succeed Ravi Sinha on June 30. Jain will take office on July 1, 2025, for a fixed two‑year tenure.

Parag Jain, currently heading the aviation Research Centre, played a vital role during ‘Operation Sindoor’ by collecting intelligence on the Pakistani armed forces. He has served as SSP, Chandigarh, and DIG Ludhiana. Jain has also represented India in Canada and Sri Lanka.

During his Canada posting, he addressed the Khalistan ecosystem and warned Delhi about potential dangers. Jain has been instrumental in the Centre’s counter-terrorism strategy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Known as a ‘super sleuth,’ Jain combines human intelligence (HUMINT) with technical intelligence (TECHINT) effectively. He played an operational role during Punjab terrorism days and contributed significantly to Operation Sindoor.

His leadership enabled precision missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during Operation Sindoor. Jain's extensive experience in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to be beneficial in his new role.

Described as methodical and discreet, Jain has held key roles throughout his career. He was promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) in Punjab on January 1, 2021, and is empanelled for leadership in the national intelligence framework.
