Young Motorcyclist Killed in Tragic Laois Crash with Road Closure by Gardai
A man in his 20s tragically died in a motorcycle crash on the N77 in Co Laois. The incident occurred at the junction of Portlaoise Road and Ballyroan Road on Tuesday evening. Gardaí are investigating and seeking witnesses for information.

A man in his 20 has died following a road traffic collision in Co Laois. The single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle occurred on the N77 at the junction of the Portlaoise Road and Ballyroan Road at approximately 7.50pm on Tuesday evening. Gardaí and emergency services responded but sadly, the motorcyclist was later pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries reported.
The man's body was removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary at Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, where a post-mortem will be carried out in due course. The scene remains preserved to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination on Wednesday morning. The road from Main Street in Abbeyleix to Tonduff Cross on the Portlaoise Road is closed and local diversions have been put in place.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the fatal road traffic collision and are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them. A Garda spokesperson said in a statement: \"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois yesterday evening, Tuesday 8th July 2025. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users or pedestrians who were in the area between 7:00pm and 8:00pm, and have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí. Anyone with information is asked to contact Abbeyleix Garda Station at 057 873 0580, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.\"
