\"It’s Tom Dearden’s time!\" That was Billy Slater's mantra after choosing Dearden as halfback over Daly Cherry-Evans following Queensland’s series opening loss in Brisbane. Dearden won the Wally Lewis Medal as player of the series after the 24-12 victory in the decider at Accor Stadium.

Dearden downplayed taking the Kangaroos No.7 jersey, praising Nathan Cleary. Dearden got his chance in the Australian squad last year alongside Mitchell Moses. Dearden excelled in Origin III, winning player of the match.

Dearden credited his success to playing with great teammates and representing his state. Slater praised Dearden's competitiveness and acknowledged Cherry-Evans' contributions to the team.
