Supreme Court Petition to Stop Execution of Malayali Nurse Nimisha Priya in Yemen

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court to stall the execution of Keralite nurse Nimisha Priya in Yemen, scheduled for July 16. Senior Advocate Ragenth Basant mentioned the matter seeking urgent listing before a bench. Basant highlighted the possibility of negotiations under Shariat law for release through 'blood money'. The petitioner, 'Save Nimisha Priya Action Council', urges the Union Government to secure her release diplomatically from Yemen. Nimisha Priya faces execution for the murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017, following alleged abuse and torture.

Earlier, Nimisha's mother sought permission to travel to Yemen for her release, but the Supreme Court of Yemen dismissed the appeal. The High Court directed the Central Government to decide on the representation despite the Indian travel ban to Yemen.
