Pakistan PM condemns 'honor killing,' calls for justice in viral video case

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the 'honor killing' of a young couple in Balochistan province and called for bringing the perpetrators to justice. The incident, captured in a viral video, shows a man shooting the woman and then the man in a remote desert area. Reports suggest they were killed for marrying by choice on the orders of a tribal council. However, the victims were not confirmed to be husband and wife.

PM Sharif has instructed the Chief Minister of Balochistan to investigate the incident and ensure that the culprits are punished according to the law. He emphasized that no one should take the law into their own hands and that legal action must be taken against the suspects.

Authorities in Quetta have ordered the exhumation of the woman's body and are still searching for the man's body. Twelve suspects, including a tribal leader, have been arrested in connection with the case. However, no complaints have been filed by the victims' relatives.

Honor killings are unfortunately common in Pakistan, where individuals are killed for not adhering to local traditions or marrying of their own choice. The Pakistan Ulema Council has denounced the couple's killing as un-Islamic and urged for terrorism cases to be registered against those involved in such incidents.
