Health officer emphasizes no need to panic as Mpox spreads through close contact, not through the air. Patient under treatment and isolation at home. Contact tracing underway to prevent further spread.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) in Negros Occidental assured the public that there is no cause for alarm over the first confirmed case of monkeypox (Mpox) in the province. Dr. Girlie Pinongan, the Provincial Health Officer, stated that the 20-year-old female patient from Talisay City is in stable condition and recovering. Mpox spreads through close physical contact and not through the air. The patient, who recently traveled domestically, started experiencing symptoms in mid-June and tested positive for Mpox. She is currently undergoing treatment and isolation at home. Household contacts are being monitored for symptoms. Contact tracing has been conducted to prevent further spread. Mayor Neil Lizares III confirmed the case and assured the city's readiness to manage the situation. The PHO advises maintaining good hygiene and seeking medical help for symptoms like fever, swollen lymph nodes, or rashes. This case is separate from a previous Mpox case in the city, and additional suspected cases are under investigation.
