A new study at the University of Lethbridge aims to identify warning signs of memory loss. Led by Chelsea Ekstrand, the study explores how individuals recall events from their daily lives. Local participants are being sought to participate in the study.
Ekstrand explained, \"This study focuses on understanding how we remember things in real life to gain insights into memory loss. As we age, memory decline is natural, and certain details may be forgotten first, such as misplacing keys.\"
The study seeks to understand how the brain retains important information amidst the daily influx of data. Ekstrand emphasized the importance of identifying markers in the brain to diagnose memory disorders early.
Participants, aged between 55 and 75, with normal vision, will engage in two two-hour sessions a week apart. Custom scenes created by the Fine Arts Department will be used for the study.
For more information or to participate, contact Dr. Chelsea Ekstrand at 403-332-4582 or [email protected].
