Crime Rates Drop in First Half of 2025, Says DILG
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported a significant decrease in focus crimes from January to June 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Focus crimes include murder, homicide, rape, and carnapping. DILG Secretary Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla highlighted the reduction in rape incidents by 31.85%, physical injuries by 30.21%, and robbery by 26.47%. The campaign against loose firearms led to the confiscation of 12,891 illegal firearms and the arrest of 5,314 individuals. Around 22,649 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted, resulting in the arrest of 24,148 persons and the seizure of over 200,000 grams of illegal drugs worth P2.17 billion.
Focus crimes significantly dropped from Jan. 1 to June 6 this year compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
DILG Secretary Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla highlighted that focus crimes, such as murder, homicide, rape, and carnapping, are serious offenses that impact public safety. He mentioned that rape incidents decreased by 31.85%, physical injuries by 30.21%, and robbery by 26.47%.
The campaign against loose firearms led to the confiscation of 12,891 illegal firearms and the arrest of 5,314 individuals, with 4,096 facing charges in court.
At the recent 1st Joint National Peace and Order Council and Regional Peace and Order Council (NPOC-RPOC) meeting, Remulla reiterated the decrease in rape incidents by 31.85%, physical injuries by 30.21%, and robbery by 26.47%.
Remulla, as the NPOC chairman, pledged to find new ways to enhance community safety and uphold the rule of law through collective efforts.
Additionally, around 22,649 anti-illegal drug operations resulted in the arrest of 24,148 persons and the seizure of over 200,000 grams of illegal drugs worth P2.17 billion, significantly disrupting the drug supply chain.
Remulla encouraged regional and local peace and order council chairpersons to promote good governance in their initiatives. The NPOC also recognized the outgoing RPOC chairpersons for their service.
The meeting was attended by National Security Adviser Eduardo M. Año, AFP Chief Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., PNP Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., OPAPRU Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr., and NICA Director General Ricardo F. De Leon, among others.
