Malaysian commando dies in military diving exercise off Kuantan coast

A member of the Malaysian Army’s elite commando unit Grup Gerak Khas (GGK) died during a military diving exercise off the coast of Kuantan, Pahang. Corporal Mohd Haswansir Julnasir, 30, from the 22nd Commando Regiment, was reported missing on July 3 during the exercise.
The soldier, part of the Special Boat Squadron, was last seen at around 12.15pm conducting a diving operation using a closed circuit breathing apparatus near Dock Port, Kuantan. His body was found by the Royal Malaysian Navy on July 5, 500m from the last sighting, with all equipment intact.
His body was taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for a postmortem and later flown to Semporna, Sabah for burial. A Board of Inquiry will investigate the incident, and the army urged the public to refrain from speculation and respect the family's privacy.
Army chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan expressed condolences, highlighting the victim's dedication and skills.
