Israeli Aggression Against Iran Threatens Global Peace, Says Pakistan’s FM Dar

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strikes on Iran, calling them “unprovoked” and a “serious threat to regional and global peace.” Dar emphasized that Israeli aggression against Iran is part of a consistent pattern of militarism and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

Speaking at the 51st Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Dar highlighted the challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah and the worsening situation in Palestine and other conflict zones. He criticized Israel for a “genocidal campaign” in Gaza, where more than 55,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed.

Dar called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, along with unfettered humanitarian access and accountability for Israeli war crimes. He also reiterated Pakistan’s support for a sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders.

Addressing tensions with India, Dar accused India of unprovoked military aggression and highlighted Pakistan’s response to Indian attacks. He warned against India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that it could lead to further instability and would be treated as an act of war.

Furthermore, Dar raised concerns about externally sponsored terrorism from groups like TTP and ISIL-K operating from neighboring territories. He urged the international community to continue humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan and called on the interim Afghan government to uphold its commitments on human rights, especially for women and girls.

Regarding Islamophobia, Dar emphasized the need to combat this pressing human rights challenge and praised Pakistan’s role in declaring March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. He also welcomed the appointment of special envoys at the UN and OIC levels to address the issue.

Concluding his address, Dar called for unity in the face of global challenges and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing the role of the OIC in international peace and security. He announced plans to convene a dedicated briefing to strengthen institutional cooperation between the UN Security Council and the OIC.
