Dubliner Niamh Walsh noticed her left leg was 4cm wider than her right one while working as a cook in a creche last year. She was diagnosed with ependymoma of the ovary, underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and a hysterectomy. Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute (TSJCI) in Dublin became the first accredited comprehensive cancer centre in Ireland, meeting high standards in cancer care, research, and education. Prof Maeve Lowery highlighted the importance of this designation in improving patient care and treatment options. Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill praised the advancement in cancer care, especially for patients with rarer forms of cancer like Ms Walsh.
