Tragic Truth Unveiled: African Migrants Found Dead at Sea Were Victims of Starvation and Desperation

Five men found in the sea off Mallorca with their hands and feet bound up with rags died after starving, drinking their own urine and sea water, distraught relatives have revealed. The bodies were those of African migrants attempting to reach the Spanish holiday island for a new life in Europe. Families disclosed that the men were bound as part of a death ritual after dying of starvation during the hazardous two-week journey. They resorted to drinking urine and sea water, surviving on just one date a day.

Photos and a video show the migrants on a small boat in distress, waving for help. The boat, which had left Algeria, drifted for two weeks after its engine broke down. Most survivors, aged 15 to 27, suffered severe dehydration and injuries, resorting to desperate measures like drinking urine and toothpaste to survive. The Red Cross provided aid and one of the alleged skippers was arrested for illegal immigration and other charges.

Doctors confirmed that those who drank seawater died. The cause of death was primarily hypoglycemia and metabolic syndrome. The bodies of the deceased migrants were found tied up in orange vests, following Somali funeral traditions. The tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by migrants attempting to reach Europe.
