Singaporean Affluent Investors Aim for US$1.39 Million Retirement Fund: HSBC Survey

Affluent investors in Singapore aim to retire comfortably with an average of US$1.39 million, surpassing the global average of US$1.05 million, according to HSBC's 2025 Affluent Investor Snapshot report. This target exceeds those of investors in Hong Kong, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The study surveyed 11,000 affluent investors aged 21 to 69 across 12 markets with investable assets ranging from US$100,000 to US$2 million. Singapore is identified as a top destination for investors to move their money to, alongside the US and Hong Kong.

Cash remains the largest asset class for Singapore investors at 24%, but allocations have decreased compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, exposure to gold and precious metals has increased by 40% annually. There is also a growing interest in alternative assets like private equity and hedge funds for diversification amid economic uncertainty.

Globally, affluent investors are reducing cash holdings by nearly 40%, increasing gold allocations by 120%, and doubling investments in alternative assets. Despite uncertainties, almost two-thirds of affluent investors in Singapore are confident about achieving their long-term financial goals, with younger investors showing higher confidence levels.

While retirement planning and wealth accumulation remain priorities, saving for leisure and personal well-being has become the top financial objective for Singapore investors. Younger investors are diversifying their portfolios with digital gold, multi-asset solutions, private market funds, mutual funds, and hedge funds, indicating a broader approach to investment.
