Rogers Launches Direct-to-Mobile Satellite Service for Remote Areas
Rogers Communications Inc. has introduced a direct-to-mobile satellite service to offer text and emergency connectivity in remote regions where traditional wireless networks are unavailable. The service is accessible to Canadians using 4G or 5G mobile phones, with a trial period until October and a monthly fee of $15 thereafter.

Rogers Communications Inc. has signed deals with NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery for their lifestyle and entertainment brands in Canada. The telecommunications company has launched a direct-to-mobile satellite service to provide text and emergency connectivity in remote areas beyond traditional wireless networks.
The service aims to fill network gaps in rural and remote areas where physical infrastructure is not feasible. It covers up to the 58th parallel, excluding northern territories, with plans to expand. Users with 4G or 5G phones can register for free during the trial period until October.
After the trial, subscribers can access the service for $15 per month, with a $5 discount for trial participants for a year. The service will be included in Rogers' Ultimate Plan at $85. Users can send text messages and access text-to-911 in emergency situations.
Future plans include social apps, data, and voice services. Rogers collaborates with Starlink and other satellite vendors for connectivity. The company aims to reach more Canadians with this service.
