Grand Theft Auto 4 Receives Major Update After 11 Years
The iconic GTA 4 mod, iCEnhancer, has been updated for the first time in over a decade, enhancing the game's visual quality. Created by modder Hayssam Keilany, the latest version, iCEnhancer 4.0, introduces physically based lighting, faster shaders, and improved fog and cloud rendering. This update marks a significant milestone for GTA 4 players.

As fans await the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, an iconic GTA 4 mod has received its first major update after 11 years. The iCEnhancer mod greatly enhanced the game in 2011, pushing the graphical limits of Rockstar Games' 2008 title. Created by modder Hayssam Keilany, iCEnhancer was designed to improve the game's visual quality.
Several new versions were released over the years to enhance the fourth title in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. However, updates ceased after version 3.0 in 2014 due to reported backlash from the modding community. In 2019, Hayssam Keilany announced his work on another version of iCEnhancer.
After a six-year wait, Grand Theft Auto 4 players finally received iCEnhancer 4.0 on July 14. This update introduced physically based lighting for the first time, along with faster shaders, fog and cloud rendering enhancements, more realistic skies, redesigned glass textures, and compatibility fixes for Windows 11. Keilany described the 4.0 version as the most stable and optimized release of iCEnhancer to date.
The update arrives as fans anticipate the launch of GTA 6, scheduled for May 26, 2026, following an announcement by Rockstar Games. The game's release was delayed from Fall 2025 to ensure the delivery of the expected quality.
