Man Found Unresponsive on Bus While Vaping, Passengers Moved to Another Bus

A man on a bus was found unresponsive and holding an e-cigarette on the evening of July 1. The journey was suspended and the other passengers were transferred to another bus. Stomper D said it happened between 5.30pm and 6.10pm on SMRT bus service 110 on the Tampines Expressway (TPE).

\"He seemed to be vaping during the whole journey,\" recounted the Stomper. \"One of the passengers then reported the incident to the bus captain, who stopped the bus to inspect the man. He was found to be bleeding and seemingly unresponsive but was still vaping.

Hence, the ride was then suspended and everyone, including me, was instructed to take the next bus while the captain reported this back to the bus company.\"

The Stomper shared a video of the bus captain checking on the man, and it shows drops of blood under the seat the man was on.

In response to a Stomp query, SMRT Buses Deputy Managing Director Vincent Gay said the bus was stationary at a bus stop on the TPE towards Punggol when the bus captain was alerted to an unconscious passenger on board. \"Upon approaching the passenger, the bus captain found the individual unresponsive and holding an e-cigarette,\" said Mr Gay.

\"Our bus captain promptly rendered assistance and remained with the affected passenger until the ambulance and police officers arrived.\" When contacted by Stomp, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said the man was taken to Sengkang General Hospital.

Mr Gay said: \"In the meantime, all other passengers were safely transferred to another bus to continue their journey. We strongly encourage passengers to report such incidents to our staff immediately.\"

According to the Health Sciences Authority, e-vaporisers are known to contain harmful chemicals. The purchase, possession and use of imitation tobacco products, which include e-vaporisers, is prohibited. Any person who is convicted of possession, use and purchase of e-vaporisers is liable to a fine of up to $2,000.
