Several local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines have suspended classes for Thursday, July 24, due to inclement weather caused by the southwest monsoon, Tropical Depression Emong, and Tropical Storm Dante.
Classes are suspended in Occidental Mindoro (all levels), Batangas City (all levels), and Navotas City (face-to-face classes in all levels). Collegio San Agustin in Makati City will have asynchronous learning for Thursday in the absence of an official suspension.
Work in local and national government offices in Occidental Mindoro was also suspended on Thursday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, Tropical Depression Emong formed west of the Babuyan Islands and was located west-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. It had maximum wind speeds of 45 kph and gusts of up to 55 kph, moving west-southwestward at 35 kph.
Tropical Storm Dante, on the other hand, was last seen 900 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon, moving north-northwestward at 15 kph with maximum wind speeds of 65 kph and gustiness of 80 kph.
