Jaishankar Urges Strong Stand Against Terrorism at SCO Meeting

External affairs minister S Jaishankar addressed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) foreign ministers’ meeting, urging the bloc to take an 'uncompromising' stance on terrorism. He highlighted the Pahalgam attack as an attempt to harm Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism and fuel religious tensions. Jaishankar emphasized India's firm response in line with international expectations, citing a UN Security Council statement condemning the attack.

Jaishankar's remarks underscored the importance of combating the 'three evils' - terrorism, separatism, and extremism - which often go hand in hand. He called for the SCO to uphold its founding principles by taking a strong stance on this issue. Additionally, Jaishankar emphasized the need for cooperation based on mutual respect, sovereign equality, and territorial integrity within the SCO.

He also advocated for increased trade and investment among SCO members, highlighting the importance of addressing transit restrictions. Jaishankar further promoted the advancement of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to enhance connectivity with Central Asia and Europe.
