Stena Line to Discontinue Rosslare to Cherbourg Ferry Service in September
Stena Line has announced the closure of its three-day ferry service between Rosslare and Cherbourg, with the final sailing scheduled for 29 September. The decision has sparked concerns among officials and passengers about losing a crucial link between Ireland and France.

Stena Line has announced the closure of its Rosslare – Cherbourg route, ending travel between Ireland and France. The three-day ferry service will end in September, with the last sailing leaving Cherbourg on 29 September.
Wexford Labour TD George Lawlor expressed shock at the closure of the successful route and called for an urgent meeting with Minister of Transport Darragh O’Brien. Lawlor emphasized the importance of the link, stating that Rosslare port is Ireland’s closest and most efficient route to Europe. He noted a significant increase in traffic at the port in recent years.
Rosslare Port has been receiving ongoing investment, with €100 million already invested from the Brexit Support Fund. Stena Line cited an extensive review as the reason for the route closure, aiming to focus on investment in the Irish Sea and optimize resources.
Johan Edelman, Stena Line Trade Director, highlighted that the company's priority is its staff and customers. They plan to support affected individuals through redeployment opportunities. Stena Line will assist customers who have booked travel after September between Rosslare – Cherbourg.
The ferry provider has invested £40 million (€46 million) in their Liverpool and Belfast terminals and upgraded the Fishguard port infrastructure. They intend to expand services across the Irish Sea with new freight vessels for specific routes.
