Dengue cases in Central Visayas this year are approaching 6,000. The Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) reported 5,880 dengue cases with 10 deaths in the region. Cebu province leads with 2,939 cases, followed by Bohol with 1,275, Cebu City with 999, Lapu-Lapu with 378, and Mandaue with 289 cases.
Dr. Ronald Jarvik Buscato mentioned that the region has already matched last year's total dengue cases with six months left in the year. The number of cases in the first half of this year is three percent higher than last year.
Buscato advised the public to seek medical help at the first signs of dengue symptoms like high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, and skin rashes. He stressed the importance of prevention, especially in urban areas.
The DOH-7 promotes the '4S' strategy against dengue: Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, secure self-protection, seek early consultation, and support fogging and misting in high-risk areas.
