BBC to Broadcast Kneecap's Glastonbury Performance On-Demand

The BBC has announced its plans to showcase Kneecap's Glastonbury performance later today. The performance will not be live-streamed but will be available on-demand. The BBC, as the broadcast partner, is offering extensive music coverage from Glastonbury, featuring artists selected by the festival organizers. While the BBC does not prohibit artists, its programming adheres to editorial guidelines. Kneecap's performance will be made available on digital platforms on-demand, along with over 90 other sets.

The controversial Irish hip-hop trio is scheduled to perform on the West Holts Stage shortly. Earlier this week, there was a debate within the BBC regarding the coverage of Kneecap, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer deeming the performance inappropriate. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy expressed her personal reluctance to see Kneecap on TV screens.

Mo Chara, a member of the group, is currently on bail for a terror charge after displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah, a banned terrorist organization in the UK. This incident followed videos of another band member allegedly making controversial statements at a gig. In a recent interview, the band defended their actions as being part of their stage persona.

Additionally, the BBC confirmed that Neil Young's set will also be televised, despite Young expressing his initial reluctance for it to be broadcasted.
