TMC Leader's Controversial Remark on Kolkata Gangrape Case Sparks Outrage

Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra commented on the gangrape incident in Kolkata, stating that girls should not go to their college if it's closed and someone offers them a position in the student unit. The incident involved a female student who was allegedly gang-raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata's Kasba on June 25.

Mitra mentioned that if the girl had not gone to the college when it was closed, the incident would not have occurred. He also blamed the law student for not informing anyone before going out, suggesting that taking friends along could have prevented the incident.

Following Mitra's comments, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee made controversial remarks about ensuring security in cases where a friend rapes a friend. Mitra distanced the party from the prime accused Manojit Mishra, stating that TMC is a big party with various associations.

The Kolkata police has formed a 5-member Special Investigation Team to look into the gangrape case. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pradip Kumar Ghosal of South Suburban Division (SSD) will lead the SIT.
